Here we have a very nice air/aviation band receiver kit with digital frequency readout.

The performance of the recevier is good, I have used my kit to sucessfully receive ACARS VHF messages as shown in the video.  I used Black Cat Syaytems ACARS decoding software - free trial available.
 
Works well with home made 'flower pot' type 2 meter amateur band antenna I made - so will work even better with a Yagi or Whip tuned to the aviation band. 
 
You also get the FM Broadcast band thrown in as well - only mono not stereo.
Medium difficulity build - no surface mount components.

Fun kit to build and a good performer.
